The award, presented recently at the Delta Flight Museum in Atlanta, recognizes the company’s material that, according to Dyneema, combines polymer science technology, next-generation ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fiber technology and uni-directional engineering.
Dyneema said this technology is lightweight and offers ballistic protection. Compared to body armor made from other materials, the company said protective vests using this technology can be as much as 30 percent lighter.
“We are honored to receive this prestigious award for our Dyneema Force Multiplier Technology, which is making a meaningful difference in the safety of law enforcement officers and soldiers,” said Hugh Welsh, president of DSM North America, who was presented the award. “This innovative material is already demonstrating its superior ballistic performance, ultra light weight and enhanced comfort in protective gear.”
DSM Dyneema manufactures ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fiber, branded as Dyneema. The fiber is used in ropes, cables and nets in the fishing, shipping and offshore industries, as well as in safety gloves for the metalworking industry and in fine yarns for applications in sporting goods and the medical sector
